Project description
With support from Natural State, Obos is transforming the former Schibsted site in Nydalen from a closed industrial area into a vibrant, mixed-use urban neighborhood. The project, Trykkeriet Nydalen, will include around 700 homes, 5,000 m² of commercial and activity spaces, and generous green areas designed to foster both recreation and community.

Natural State works with developers to create places rooted in people’s needs through placemaking, collaboration, and open communication. In late 2024, I joined the project to develop the visual identity and website for Trykkeriet Nydalen as part of their strategic work with Obos. The identity needed to support early, transparent communication, align with Obos’s brand hierarchy, and signal a more community-driven, ground-up approach to urban development.

Designing an identity for a place still in the making was the core challenge. As dialogue with stakeholders and the local community evolved, so did the vision for the project. The identity had to reflect the current phase while remaining flexible enough to grow over time, appealing to both residential buyers and commercial partners, and communicating a broader story of renewal and change.

Our approach focused on transformation—where nature meets urban life, history meets modern housing, and empty industrial halls become filled with life. This was expressed through the transitional Season Mix typeface, a press-inspired illustration referencing the site’s past, and a warm, grounded color palette of dark brown, copper, terracotta, and peach. The resulting identity is rooted in the present while looking confidently toward the future, inviting people to connect with the project and take part in shaping a new piece of the city together.
